Grade 1A

Ceren Kundakci

The Grades 1 and I have had a great start to the year. So much learning and fun has taken place throughout each school day.

In Number and Algebra, we have learnt how to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s using a 100 chart. Using various strategies like the number line we are beginning to work out simple addition sums. We are learning to identify odd and even numbers and put this into real life examples. The students are beginning to build their confidence in using a place value chart using two digit numbers. In Measurement and Geometry, students are now able to construct an analogue and digital clock showing time in o'clock and 1/2 past. I am very proud to see that the students have become very confident in creating a pictograph and reflecting back on their data.

In Literacy, we have continued reading various genres and writing recounts reflecting back on our daily lives and using basic punctuation to improve our sentence structure. The students particularly enjoyed learning about 'adjectives' this term.

One of the main highlights for the term was our excursion to 'Yarrabee Yesterday's World'. Our integrated topic for Term 1 was 'Families: Past and Present life'. This excursion enabled the Grade 1's to experience the life of a country child at home and at school in the early years of the 1900s. Students walked away feeling overwhelmed at how distinctive school and home life was from today.

All the students in Grade 1A have been working very hard. Keep up the fantastic work Grade 1A.

Kind regards
